World Children’s Day, also called Universal Children’s Day, is a UNICEF’s annual day of action for children, by children. Addressing concerns from climate change, education and mental health to ending racism and discrimination, children and young people are raising their voices on the issues that matter to their generation and calling for adults to create a better future.

World Children’s Day was first established in 1954 as Universal Children’s Day and is celebrated on November 20th each year, promoting international togetherness and awareness among children worldwide to improve the lives children. November 20th is an important date, as it is this date in 1959 when the UN General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

This year’s World Children’s Day theme is For Every Child, Every Right! Specifically, every child has the right to live in a peaceful world; children have the right to a safe and livable planet; and children must be listened to and included in all decisions that affect them.

This World Children’s Day, take time to learn about some of our American Red Cross programming for children. We offer programs like Prepare with Pedro, which, is a 30 to 45-minute preparedness education program for grades K-2 that teaches students how to BE PREPARED and TAKE ACTION for either home fires or a local hazard.
